Henderson\/Getty Images; (Right): Photo by Bob Levey\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lawmakers <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7364268\/2026\/06\/15\/sf-giants-pride-night-caps-bible-verses-mlb-warning\/\" target=\"_blank\">warned<\/a><\/strong> Major League Baseball for threatening players who wrote Bible verses on their caps during &#8220;Pride Night.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>June is Pride Month and multiple professional sports teams showed support for LGBTQ+ with signage and campaigns on social media. Henderson\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When asked why he wrote the Bible verse, starting pitcher Landen Roupp told reporters that it was &#8220;just about God&#8217;s covenant and a promise that he makes to us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s just something I believe in, and I stand firm in that,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;I&#8217;m thankful we live in a country where, you know, we have the freedom to believe what we want &#8230; and express what we want.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Giants issued an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/articles\/san-francisco-giants-pitchers-warned-161411341.html\" target=\"_blank\">apology<\/a><\/strong> acknowledging that the players&#8217; actions may have &#8220;caused pain and anger&#8221; to the LGBTQ+ community.<\/p>\n<p>The Giants&#8217; statement and apology got the attention of lawmakers and conservative media.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;MLB has a real mess here. It&#8217;s not 2020 any more,&#8221; Outkick founder Clay Travis <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ClayTravis\/status\/2067726734900761086\" target=\"_blank\">tweeted<\/a><\/strong> on Thursday.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">MLB has a real mess here.
